Roulette is a game of chance and luck. Players bet on a number or group of numbers on the table map and, if they win, receive a payout based on their initial bet and odds.
Some players use betting systems to improve their chances of winning. One of these is the Martingale system, which involves doubling your stake after each loss until you win.
Origins
The exact origins of roulette are a little bit murky. There are a few different theories out there though. Some believe that the game was first created in China and then spread to Europe by monks. Others believe that the game was invented by French mathematician Blaise Pascal in 1655 as part of his attempt to create a perpetual motion machine.
It is also believed that the game was derived from other games that were similar in structure. These include the English games of portique and hoca and the Italian game of Biribi.
As more Europeans made their way to America, roulette became a popular gambling game. In 1843, Francois and Louis Blanc introduced the single 0 roulette wheel in order to make their casino more competitive against other casinos that offered a double-zero version of the game.
