How to Beat the House Edge at Roulette

There are many roulette strategies that claim to beat the odds. But the truth is that no betting system can overcome the house edge.

To play roullete, you need to first purchase a roulette chip from the dealer (or croupier). The dealer will ask you what denomination you want to designate for each chip.

Origin

The exact origin of roulette is not known but it is widely accepted that the modern game first appeared in Paris in 1796. The first modern roulette wheels had numbered pockets from 1-36 on red and black backgrounds and the rules for placing bets were very similar to those of today’s game.

Several games that are similar in structure to roulette have been thought of as precursors, including portique, hoca, bassette and roly poly. The word ‘roulette’ itself is likely to have come from the French word for “little wheel.”

It is also possible that the game originated in China and was brought to Europe by Dominican monks. It eventually made its way to America along with the other European elements of casino culture.
